Odyssey of the Mind

This registration is ONLY for kids who are already on Odyssey of Teams. 

• Typical student activities: Students work in teams of 5-7 to create solutions with skits (for the primary, car, robot, classics, balsa wood or drama problems). They will compete at a regional tournament in early March. They will also solve a Spontaneous problem.

• Goals: Improve creativity and problem solving, inspire teamwork, gain leadership and self-reliance, learn how to adhere to a budget, get confidence performing in front of others, practice thinking on your feet.

• Grade span: K-8 (3 different divisions)

• When: Usually once a week Oct.-Mar. (Please note: If a team advances to State, the competition is early April. In few cases, if a team advances to World Finals, the competition is in May) 

• Where: Meeting location depends on coach

• Time: meeting time and duration is determined by each individual team's coach

• Cost: $90 for tournament fee, T-shirt, and materials.  Please note: Registering now will put you on the waitlist.  If/when your child makes it onto a team, fees will be collected in Jumbula at the later time.  Payment must be made in full by October 31, 2024.

• Participation: Students must be committed to participate on the team.  Parents must be committed to support student's involvement on the team and travel to tournaments for Regional, State, and/or World Finals depending on the team's advancement. Parents not coaching a team should be prepared to volunteer on the day of the tournament.  In addition, Parents should be prepared to support the participant's team if needed and as requested by the coach.

  Additional charges: that parents might incur is if and when the team advances to State level and/or World Finals level. At the State level, there are not many additional charges incurred besides gas (car travel), and if parents optionally choose to stay at a hotel night before competition. In few cases,if team advances to World Finals level, the additional charges include room and board, food, airfare,transportation, etc. since the competition is out-of-state.(Please note that teams advancing to WorldFinals may do fundraising to help cover some cost.)

  This club is entirely a parent volunteer run program.  Our club needs parent volunteers to lead a team (coach).  Please consider. Every year we turn away many students because we don't have enough team leaders. (If you decide to lead a team, your child is guaranteed a spot)
